Sensory triggers

Sensory triggers are things in our environment that can cause a strong reaction, either positive or negative. For someone who’s neurodivergent, these triggers might be more intense or different from what others experience. For instance, a sound that seems normal to one person might feel incredibly loud or even painful to someone else. The same goes for things like lights, textures, smells, and tastes.

It’s important to remember that everyone’s experience is unique. Some might find joy in sensory experiences that others avoid, while certain sensations might be overwhelming or stressful for them. This is why being open and understanding is so important when it comes to sensory triggers. If you know someone who is sensitive to certain sensory inputs, it’s always a good idea to ask them what works for them and what doesn’t.

Creating an environment where neurodivergent folks feel comfortable and supported can make a big difference. Whether it’s offering a quiet space, adjusting lighting, or simply being patient and understanding, these small changes can help accommodate different sensory needs.

So, let’s keep the conversation going, stay curious, and be kind as we learn more about how we can all live harmoniously with our different sensory experiences!
